University Place enhances campus catering services

August 2008

Catering service on the campus of IUPUI has graduated to a new level of excellence. Four Course Catering Service is the latest addition to the new Campus Center and will be supported by University Place. With this reorganization, all catering will be afforded the same service and quality operated under the direction standards the campus has been provided by University Place for 21 years.

Four Course Catering will support on going campus activities ranging from informal coffee and refreshment breaks to buffet meals and distinctive table service.   For convenience, selections from the No Frills Student and Foodworks Menus may be ordered through a new website booking tool known as Catertrax.  The Campus Specialties and FoodArt Menus can be ordered by contacting the Four Course Catering Office directly.  Four Course Catering can also design special menus to accommodate themed events, special menus or meet budgetary requirements.

The new service will premier four tiers of food service, specifically designed to meet the catering needs of the IUPUI community. The choice will range from a student’s no-frills menu offering  casual, pick-up foods;  a price effective plan “Foodworks” offering full meal options for campus organizations;  a “Campus Center Specialties” plan offering a mid-tier price range on a variety of catered meals; and a high end option known as “FoodArt” presenting catering for elegant galas, weddings, awards presentations and special events.

University Place Conference Center & Hotel awarded four diamond rating from AAA for 2nd Year.

INDIANAPOLIS – University Place Conference Center & Hotel has, once again, been awarded a four diamond rating by the American Automobile Association (AAA).  This rating indicates the accommodations and service are upscale by AAA standards.  The hotel was inspected by AAA and praised for having an extensive array of amenities and maintaining a high degree of hospitality and service.

“This rating is a stamp of approval on the quality of our service and the atmosphere of the property, showing the community and clientele that we are an upscale property with great service to match,” said Tom Cappucci, general manager, University Place. “This is a confirmation that we are a leader in the hospitality industry within Indiana and the surrounding Midwest region.”

The 19-year-old property completed a $13 million renovation last year.  The transformation included a complete renovation of the hotel’s 278 guestrooms, remodeling of the property’s three restaurants, and the redesign of some of the space used for special events and banquets. Among the design changes for the hotel are complimentary high speed wired and wireless Internet access throughout the property.

University Place is on the campus of IUPUI and adjoined by a skywalk to University Hospital, an ideal location for meetings and conferences geared toward leadership development, sports and life sciences. The conference center and hotel is owned by Indiana University.

University Place Conference Center & Hotel Recertified as Premier Meeting Facility

          June 2006

University Place earns certification from the International Association of Conference Centers (IACC) for the 19th consecutive year.  This means that University Place maintains its position as the only full service IACC-approved facility in the state of Indiana.  Other IACC-approved facilities in Indiana do not have guestrooms and large banquet facilities attached to the property.  IACC finished the inspection 2 weeks ago.

University Place opened in 1987 on the campus of IUPUI and completed a $13 million dollar renovation to the hotel in March 2006.  The renovation included 278 new guestrooms, a sports bar and a restaurant.  The conference center maintains more than 25,000 square feet of meeting space.

IACC specifies that, in order to achieve and maintain approval, all meeting rooms must meet certain criteria.

Some of the criteria necessary for approval include the following:

  • Dedicated sound proof conference rooms have wall surfaces suitable for tacking or other display of flip chart-type sheets.
  • Certified Skilled Technicians are proficient in providing creative program consultation; equipment setup, operation and instruction
  • Conference planners thoroughly proficient in providing effective meeting room setups, menu and special event planning

More information about IACC can be found at www.iaccnorthamerica.org.
